Graham Carey’s super strike in the 17th minute was all Argyle needed in the end to secure a valuable victory in their quest for automatic promotion, as sides just below them in the Sky Bet League Two table once again slipped up.
The Home Park crowd got behind the boys as they started in a high gear, dominating the first half. Then after the break, as Morecambe began to push for an equaliser, the noise stepped up a notch to help see the Greens through to the final whistle.
“The Green Army supported us from start to finish and it really helped,” said Derek. “They must have known the scores!
“It just shows you: we’ve got an intimidating atmosphere here at times. The players play to that. You’ve seen here today that it’s important that we’re all in it together.
“I thought today, the amount of backing we had from them; they’re in a good place at this moment in time. They’ve been able to see their team put on a good show for them today.”
Adams will be hoping for more of the same in Argyle’s final three home games of the season, hosting Accrington Stanley, Newport County and Crewe Alexandra. Winning these games will continue to heap pressure on fellow promotion-chasers – as well as league leaders, Doncaster Rovers.
“We’ve been able to open up a points gap between ourselves and third position,” said Adams, “and we’re still on the tail of Doncaster as well.
“We’ve got to take care of ourselves, but obviously when you look at the other results, it shows you how important a win it is today for us.”
