ARGYLE'S disability team have made history by becoming the first side to successfully defend their title in National Finals.
The Greens achieved legendary status after a thrilling tournament at the David Beckham Academy in London on Saturday.
Disability manager Graham Eyles was a proud man after an emotional day in the capital. "I am incredibly proud of each and every one of them," he said.
Argyle opened their campaign with a 1-0 win over Birmingham City in the group stages of the competition, and a semi-final berth was secured with a 2-0 victory over Stoke City and a 3-1 beating of Millwall.
The semi-final with Everton proved to be the nail-biter of the day. Neither side could break the deadlock in normal time or extra time, but the Greens held their nerve to win the penalty shoot-out 3-2.
They took that confidence into the final, brushing aside MK Dons 2-0 to lift the trophy for the second time in 12 months.
News soon reached Argyle manager Paul Sturrock, who took time out from his side's friendly win at Morecambe to congratulate the disability squad.
"It is a fabulous achievement," he said. "I want to congratulate Graham, his coaching staff and the players for their dedication and skill. They have made history and made the club proud."
