PAUL Maxwell began his footballing life as a trainee at Home Park and came within days of appearing for the Argyle first-team.

Maxi was due to make his debut under manager David Kemp in 1991, but suffered a serious injury in a friendly match at Saltash a few days before.

Kemp left the managerial hot-seat soon after and Maxi was never given the chance to prove himself under new boss Peter Shilton.

His career as a combative centre-back never came to fruition and Maxi gradually moved into the world of fitness, and eventually he qualified as a physio.

Maxi learned the ropes as a physio with Aberdeen and Millwall before returning to Home Park in 1999, and he has been here ever since.
