LILIAN Nalis is Argyle's Player of the Season for 2006-07.

The evergreen French midfielder topped the Green Army's annual poll, winning more than 50% of all the votes cast.

Young defender Gary Sawyer won a tight contest with fellow Devonian Dan Gosling to take the plaudits for Young Player of the Season.

Nalis was presented with his award by Argyle chairman Paul Stapleton before the Pilgrims' final Coca-Cola Championship game of the season against Preston on Saturday.

The vote for the Player of the Season was spread among many of the squad, reflecting the numerous contributions to a successful season.

In joint third place were two newcomers this season, Dutch centre-back Marcel Seip and veteran forward Barry Hayles, while runner-up, and in the top three for the fourth year in succession, was last year's winner, David Norris.

Fittingly, perhaps, Nalis, 35, has made more appearances for Argyle than any other outfield player this season and has been at the beating heart of all that is good about the Pilgrims' game.

He joined Argyle on a free transfer last season and has been a virtual ever-present since. A product of the Auxerre youth system, he had spells with several French teams before moving to Italy with Chievo.

He joined Leicester City in July 2003 and moved to Sheffield United last summer before agreeing to cancel the remaining 18 months of his Blades contract to join the Pilgrims.

He has just agreed a one-year contract to stay at Home Park throughout the 2007-08 campaign.

Sawyer received his award from Argyle vice-chairman Robert Dennerly.

Votes for the Young Player of the Season were spread among more than half a dozen players, reflecting of the strength in dept which the club now boasts.

However, two young men with immense potential who made a significant contribution to the Pilgrims' successful season - two of the brightest talents ever to emerge from the Westcountry - emerged as front-runners, attracting, between them, 85% of the total votes cast.

In third place, fans voted for Scott Sinclair, while a close runner-up was England Under-17 midfielder Gosling.

Sawyer, 21, made his first-team debut this season and went on to establish himself as regular in Ollie's squad.

A product of the Argyle youth set-up, who has showed his versatility as central defender or left-back, he has played 25 times and earned himself a contract extension which will keep him at the club until 2009.
