RETURN OF TC

Posted on: Sat 15 Sep 2007

TONY Capaldi is all set to start for his new club Cardiff City in Saturday's televised clash at Home Park - kick-off 5.20pm.

It is the first time TC has faced Argyle since his summer move away from Home Park on a Bosman transfer.

Argyle boss Ian Holloway has urged the Green Army to give him the reception he deserves after fiver years excellent service for the Pilgrims.

Ollie said: "If I was an Argyle fan, and I am at the moment, I would think that he has done very well for the club.

"The fact that he chose to leave us is nothing to do with him. It is to do with his agent and what the other teams are paying in this standard, and what he believes he deserves.

"I don't think for one minute that he was not proud to play for us. If you don't think he did well for us, then you should moan at him, but I thought he was terrific and I was sad to lose him.

"He was quality on the ball and probably the best left-back I have seen with the ball at his feet. I think he was a full-back but part of him doesn't like defending at times.

"He has been a huge part of where Argyle ended up in the Championship. Tony Capaldi was desperately loyal to Plymouth Argyle in the five years he was here.

"He was so committed. He may have looked a bit easy-osey, but that is his style. I loved the way he was so calm."

The Northern Ireland international was originally considered a doubt for the game with an injury and the possible intervention of FIFA regulations on injured players.

Capaldi missed Northern Ireland's defeats in Latvia and Iceland, and the loss in Reykjavik came within five days of tomorrow's game, which could have forced him out of the game if his national team boss Nigel Worthington had invoked the FIFA ruling.

FIFA legislation states that any player removed from a national team squad through injury cannot play for his club within five days of the international fixture.

However, the ruling only comes into effect if it is invoked by the national team manager and Worthington has decided against that in this case, leaving TC free to play.
