LEE Martin introduced himself to the Green Army with the winning goal and a sparkling display against Coventry City.

The young winger, making his full debut, joined the Pilgrims on a three-month loan a fortnight ago and took just 16 minutes to score the only goal of the game.

He said: "It was a tough game but I enjoyed it. I haven't played much this season and I got a bit tired towards the end.

"Obviously it is a good way to start but I have to keep it up now. You can't rest on your laurels. You have to go out there and make sure you do it again.

"We had chances to maybe get two or three and kill off the game. We perhaps invited a bit of pressure in the dying moments but we coped with it.

"We got into Coventry's faces and they didn't seem to like it. We got about them and looked sharp and bright. We caused a lot of trouble with our front two."

The goal stemmed from a wonderful cross by Martin's former Manchester United and Royal Antwerp team-mate Sylvan Ebanks-Blake.

"I think credit has to go to Sylv, said Martin. "He spotted me making my run and I just got a foot on it, and was a bit lucky it went in the back of the net.

"When you have played with people for a few years, you get to know what they are about and how they play.

"I know that Sylv's a finisher. He wants the ball in the box and he will moan if you don't get it to him.

"It is my job to get it in the box and, if the service is not right, he has got every right to moan at me."

The presence of a familiar face has naturally helped Martin to settle at Home Park, although he revealed manager Ian Holloway was the main reason behind his move to the South West.

He said: "It is always easier to come into a set-up when you know two or three people. The main reason was to play regularly and the manager.

"He [Ollie] has been after me for three or four years and I wanted to play for a manager who wanted me.

"Obviously I spoke to the manager up there [Sir Alex Ferguson] and he told me the clubs that were in for me. We had a general chat and he told me what he thought would be the best move.

"He [Ferguson] likes the manager down here. He is a big fan of him [Ollie] and he told me to just come down and enjoy my football.

"It is all about enjoying my football. When I relax is when you get the best out of me.

"They [Manchester United] have got a lot of world class players, so it is hard for a youngster to breakthrough.

"You have seen Sylv. He is a quality player and there are loads of youngsters (at United).

"Although you train with the first-team, it is not the same as playing and you can sometimes feel you're not part of it, and you lose confidence."

Martin made his first appearance for Argyle as a substitute in the 0-0 draw at Blackpool, but he feels the international break has given him more time to settle.

He said: "The break has helped ease me in and I can get used to the training and the style that we play.

"I have had a strong week of getting used to the formation and where the manager wants me to be, and what he wants me to do.

"It is not perfect and I've not mastered anything, but I'm trying to get back in and tuck round."

Victory over the Sky Blues lifted Argyle into the play-off positions and they can now look forward to facing Charlton Athletic on Tuesday night.

"We are in a great position and this is where we want to be," said Martin.

"We think we can get up there and who knows? The sky is the limit. We will just see what happens but, with the way we played, we could push any team in this league.

"It is going to be a hard game on Tuesday. We need to get some rest and hopefully produce a similar performance."
