HEAD'S UP FOR ENGLAND

Posted on: Fri 30 Nov 2007

Argyle's 15-year-old striker, Liam Head, helped England U16's beat Scotland 2-1 in Falkirk to retain the Sky Sports Victory Shield for the seventh successive season.

The Bovey Tracey teenager started the game and twice almost put England ahead.

First his powerful left foot shot from the edge of the box forced a good save by Celtic 'keeper Connor Fairley before he went close at the far post from an inswinging free kick by Manchester United's Ryan Tunnicliffe.

Charlton Athletic's Jojo Shelvey eventually got the Young Lions off the mark with a cool finish from ten yards in first half injury time.

South Dartmoor Community College student Liam was substituted after 67 minutes, as England coach Kenny Swain continued his policy of having a look at all the players in his large squad.

Both sides scored from penalties in the next two minutes - Everton's Jose Baxter converting to put England two-up, and Rangers' Kal Naismith pulling one back for the plucky Scots.
