ARGYLE manager Paul Sturrock said that he could not have asked for any more from midfielder Chris Clark on his first Pilgrims game.

Clark netted the Pilgrims goal in their 2-1 FA Cup fourth-round defeat at Portsmouth, finding the net after just five minutes, and that was just the icing on the cake as far as the Argyle manager was concerned.

"You also saw that he's got really natural ability," said Luggy.

"He's still a bit quiet - he doesn't know anybody; he doesn't know half their names still - but he showed in spells that he's going to be an excellent addition to the squad.

"You can't ask for anything more than him on his debut."

The manager's remarks were echoed by captain Lilian Nalis.

"He's a great lad and has got a lot of quality - he's shown that already on the training-ground," said Lil. "He is going to be a good player for Argyle."

Clark is one of several new faces in the Pilgrims squad, and there will be more before the transfer-window closes on Thursday, as well as in the summer.

"We're hoping we can add two or three more players before the end of January," said Luggy, "and I'd like to think that our new head scout will kick in and have players ready for us, come the start of the season.

"We have been in a transitional period far as personnel going out of the door is concerned, and, hopefully, a lot of players will be coming in the door.

"At the same time, we have got to win football games because we are still in a good position in the league, and if we perform like that as a regular occurrence over the next 10-11 weeks, we could create a lot of mayhem in the league.

"Trying to mould a Paul Sturrock team as quick as possible and still win football games is a difficult thing to do but we're going to give it a go."
