PÉTER Halmosi is set to start in tomorrow's clash with Preston North End despite suffering from a long-term knee problem.
The Hungarian winger damaged his knee against Watford last month, but scans revealed a previously undetected injury.
Péter returned to action with a goal in Monday's 1-1 draw at Sheffield Wednesday, although manager Paul Sturrock felt his overall Hillsborough performance was quieter than usual.
"We feel part of Péter's problem has been there from when he was over in Hungary," said Luggy.
"There is a fresh injury but rest will probably be the best thing for it.
"I have had a look at the tape from Monday and had a word with him because he looked a bit sheepish.
"He says he was carrying a wee niggling knock on his hamstring but, if I decide to play him [against Preston], I need to see Péter the match-winner because he just floated around the edges on Monday."

The opposite wing to Péter's will definitely not be filled by Derby loan star Gary Teale, who has been ruled out with a hamstring strain.
"Teale won't make it," said Luggy. "He is carrying a hamstring strain and should be ok for next Saturday. I was disappointed because I felt he could have influenced the game on Monday.
"Everybody else is fit, although training has been shambolic because of the wind, and the dry pitch doesn't help either."
In the opposing dug-out to Luggy will be former Dundee United team-mate Alan Irvine, who has done a wonderful job in guiding Preston away from relegation trouble.
Irvine learned the managerial game as assistant to David Moyes at Everton - an apprenticeship Luggy feels many higher-profile managers would benefit from.
"Alan has had a great upbringing," he said. "I believe a manager should be a coach first and, if I had anything to do with it, I would make that compulsory.
"A lot of the big names that fall by the wayside in their first managerial debacle went from player to manager, instead of going from player to coach to manager.
"He played badly for Dundee United when I was there. He was a very good player with Palace and Everton, but he got Jim McLean-ed at Dundee United."
