MAT SIGNS
MATHIAS Kouo-Doumbe has secured his future at Home Park by accepting a new two year contract.
Doumbe, 29, will now be the longest serving outfield player on Argyle's books, after joining the Pilgrims from Hibernian four years ago in June 2004.
Since his arrival, Mat has made 113 starts for The Greens, mainly at the centre of defence, yet he began his career as a central-midfielder with French giants Paris Saint Germain, playing alongside the likes of Nigerian international Jay-Jay Okocha and French star Nicolas Anelka.
He joined Hibernian in October 2001 from PSG and converted into a defender. He spent three years with the Edinburgh club before following manager Bobby Williamson down to Argyle.
Current Argyle manager Paul Sturrock is delighted to have secured Mat's services:
"I am very happy Matty has agreed to stay.
"Last year he had a tough time. When I arrived at the club the defence had been doing well and he was waiting for a chance to get back into the team.
"From the Southampton game on he did very well but suffered a couple niggling hamstring problems which sidelined him again.
"With a good pre-season I can see Mat having a good campaign and continuing as a vital member of the team," concluded Sturrock.
