PLAYER of the Season Krisztián Timár has confirmed he is very close to signing a new deal with Argyle.

The uncompromising Hungarian defender is on the verge of completing a deal that will keep him at Home Park until the summer of 2011 at least.

"The two parties are very close to each other but we have to talk once and I think everything will be fine," he said.

Timár,arrived at Home Park in January 2007 on a short-term loan deal from Hungarian side Ferencvaros. The deal soon became permanent when he signed for £100,000 the following summer.

Last season was a fantastic one for the Beast of Budapest. He played a huge part in Pilgrims' impressive league campaign, earned his first full cap for Hungary and finished off as Argyle captain for the last two games.

However, with just 25 minutes of the season remaining a sickening clash at Wolves left him needing an operation to insert metal plates in a serious head wound, but he remains hopeful of being fit for Argyle's season-opener against, Wolves, who else.

He said: "I want to play against Wolves so I will be there. It is better than we thought before.

"I head everyday if somebody throws the ball to me but, hopefully, I will soon start heading when somebody kicks the ball, then after that one against one, with someone stood in front of me then, maybe, hopefully, I will be ready for the start of the Championship season."

Having a Dip

Whilst Krisztián recovers, he is wearing a mask to protect the weaker part of his forehead. It is a situation that he is not too happy about.

He said: "I have a head-guard but I don't like it.

"It is just for protection but sometimes it slips and bothers me a little bit

"I think I don't need it because my skull is recovered and how I feel when I head the ball is absolutely spot on.

"I would like to play as soon as possible. Maxi (physio Paul Maxwell) and the doctor say I have to be careful.

"They are just worried about me but I said they don't need to worry. Maybe they are more scared than me.

"I have told Maxi and the doctor that if I feel any small pain I'll stop but at the moment there is nothing."
