ARGYLE manager Paul Sturrock gave a resounding thumbs-up to his players after Saturday's opening day draw with Wolves.
Goals from Rory Fallon and Marcel Seip came within 12 minutes of giving the Pilgrims victory before Sam Vokes grabbed a dramatic equaliser for the visitors.
It was a cruel blow after a pulsating game where debutant goalkeeper Graham Stack, selected over injured Romain Larrieu, had kept Wolves at bay with a string of fine saves.
"Romain has been carrying a wee groin strain and I want to give him time," said Luggy. "He [Stack] had a good competent game.
Just in front and to the left of Stack was another man making his debut - Chris Barker only signed for Argyle hours before kick-off after regular left-back Gary Sawyer was ruled out with an ongoing hamstring problem.
Luggy said: "Gary Sawyer has had something bothering him for about six months now. We are going to have another specialist looking at it next week.
"I sat down and thought about the kind of full-back I was looking for and someone with experience was what I wanted.
"He [Barker] certainly fits that mould and he had a very competent, solid game."
Further praise was heaped on the youthful central midfield duo of Luke Summerfield and Simon Walton, yet another debutant.
Luggy said: "You also have to remember the two centre-midfield players. They are fighting over who is the oldest and they were very competent in the engine room.
"Simon Walton looks half-fit to me but, if we get him up to speed, we will have a very good player on our hands.
"Jason Puncheon came on and looked a real handful as well."
For the record, Walton turns 21 next month, three months ahead of Summerfield.
Luggy then turned his attention to the performance of front pair Rory Fallon and Jermaine Easter, with Fallon, in particular, rising to the occasion.
The big Kiwi endured a quiet pre-season with Luggy fearing a return to the ultra laid-back Fallon of the first-half of last season.
"Rory worked his tail off to the extent he was out on his feet," said Luggy. "Easter is as hardworking as anybody - I would like him to get a goal or two and you would see a different player.
"Strangely enough, until Saturday, I was starting to worry about Rory again because I didn't see the Rory of the last ten games [of last season] through pre-season.
"He came to the show today, won his headers and put himself about."
The manager now knows he has a number of decisions to make ahead of tomorrow's Carling Cup visit to Luton Town, especially with the huge challenge of a Championship trip to Reading on Saturday.
He said: "I will have to make a lot of decisions about Tuesday [at Luton]. Barker and Walton were definitely firing on fumes at the end of the game and there were a couple of others as well, and we have a big game for next Saturday [at Reading]."
