FORMER Argyle manager Neil Warnock has urged the Green Army to back manager Paul Sturrock and get behind the team against Sheffield United on Saturday.

Although his Crystal Palace side beat the Pilgrims 3-1 on Tuesday, Warnock believes that manager Paul Sturrock and his men have the talent and commitment to rise out of their current situation.

"You look at them and there was nobody who didn't try tonight," he said.

"I don't think they were as bad as that. I think we've played a lot worse sides than that.

"They just caught us on a great night."

Palace had suffered four successive defeats in the league before Tuesday night and the manager understands how quickly a win can transform everything.

When the Pilgrims visited Selhurst Park last September, they left the stadium 2-1 victors courtesy of a Paul Gallagher double.

"I know what it is like as I was in a similar situation to Paul," said Warnock. "I lost four on the trot.

"It's such a difficult league and you have to look at the whole situation.

"Look at when Plymouth came up to our place. They beat us.

"Sometimes you just have to take a look back at where you were and what you're doing

"It's no good complaining all the time and everybody being negative.

"If your team is trying hard, then they will get through it.

"To be fair I thought the fans were quite good and that's what Paul is going to need against Sheffield United."
