SPOILT FOR CHOICE
DEPTH in key areas accounted for the exclusion of Steve MacLean and Simon Walton from manager Paul Sturrock's squad that travelled to Molineux last weekend.
The Pilgrim's were regarded as underdogs heading into their game against Wolves on the weekend but Paul Gallagher's strike in the first minute ensured the Greens all three points.
"I could only take a squad of 20 players for that game and they were for positions that I had problems and injuries in," said Luggy.
"I had to cover players that could play in those positions.
"It was a difficult decision to be made but bringing two players into that scenario when they're not the positions we have problems with didn't make sense."
Steve MacLean has found goals hard to come by so far this season, having only found the net twice in 11 starts.
In recent weeks, Argyle's record-signing has been relegated to the bench for Luggy's preferred pairing of Paul Gallagher and Jamie Mackie up front and was overlooked on the weekend for the returning Jermaine Easter.
Simon Walton arrived to Home Park at the beginning of the season but has found games limited after falling out with Luggy during the festive season.
The midfielder has only featured 13 times for the Pilgrims so far and has found himself further down the pecking order with the arrival of Carl Fletcher from Crystal Palace.
He said: "They are professional men and they have got to handle all situations.
"I took Easter because I felt he had to get a wee lift after playing in the reserves.
"Steve and I had a chat yesterday about a whole lot of things. Him and I had a frank discussion and we both know where we are coming from now.
"He is very much the same style [as Walton] but since Fletcher has come in, we've drawn against Sheffield United and beaten Wolves.
"I feel also that one or two of the others have done a decent job in that midfield and I've won it with them.
"I am very pleased that a lot of the players who have not been in the team at this minute have come and seen me over the last couple of days.
"It shows they care and it was good they aired their views."
