PLYMOUTH Argyle's pre-season routine will see them take on another 'Team in Green' next Wednesday, when they will be put through their paces by the Royal Marines.

Members of 1 Assault Group Royal Marines, based in HM Naval Base Devonport, will allow the Pilgrims' players to tackle a different form of physical training…with the emphasis on the physical.

A morning serial of varied and extreme events will, for example, see players stretchered off the pitch - for very long distances. The Royal Marines will carry out their stretcher-run with the players, and a waterlogged pitch will be no excuse to stop play.

Nor will there be any substitutions, sendings-off or stoppage time - 1 Assault Group will keep on going with a range of circuits and encourage Argyle's players to do the same.

The afternoon will allow the footballers to aim at a target without a net: the firing range at Tregantle Fort will see them practice another form of artistry, where the fingers, and not the feet, decide the score.

The day will provide an excellent opportunity for Argyle to see how the other 'Team in Green' go about their training process and is a positive team-building event.

1 Assault Group Royal Marines cover a wide range of training and specialize in a variety of amphibious craft, as the parent Unit for 10 Training Squadron (Poole) and 11 Amphibious Trial & Training (Instow).
