BORN TO SCORE

Posted on: Wed 15 Jul 2009

STRIKER Bradley Wright-Phillips joins Argyle with a simple plan for success.

Goals are the diet he feeds on and the former Southampton and Manchester City is determined to improve on a fallow period in his career.

"I am a striker," he said. "I have been a striker since I was six-and-a-half.

"I have always seen myself as a goalscorer. I haven't scored as many as I would like but that is definitely how I see myself.

"At first, I just want to get some games. I want to play more games than I've ever played before and after that, I will set my own targets for goals."

Bradley joins Argyle on a free transfer from relegated Southampton, and he has happy memories of Home Park.

The son of Arsenal legend Ian Wright and half-brother to England Winger Shaun scored a terrific goal in a 1-1 at the Theatre of Greens in January 2008.

It was the perfect example of the pace he has built his reputation on, racing clear of the Argyle defence to clip the ball home.

"I have scored here [at Home Park]," he said.

"Pace is one of my strengths and I was onto a through ball - I would like to make it more of a trademark."

Bradley visited Argyle a fortnight before signing on the dotted Green line, and he revealed the conversations he had with manager Paul Sturrock were a deciding factor in the move.

Another bonus for the new boy will be a familiar face in the Argyle dressing room.

"I am going to try my best," he said. "I spoke to him [Luggy] when I came down before and he said everything I needed to hear, and he showed faith in me.

"I have shown glimpses [in my career] and, hopefully, he is the man to get it out of me and, obviously, it is down to me as well.

"It was one of the things he said that impressed me because it is not often you get a manager who will take a lot of time out with players.

"Nowadays, it is all about results, but it is good to get coaching as well.

"I am going to work hard in training and I don't mind meeting new people, although I've know Jason [Puncheon] since we played Sunday League football.

"We played for a team called Melwood in the Croydon area. He [Puncheon] is a good player and, like me, I think there is a lot more to come from him."
