ARGYLE manager Paul Sturrock has decided upon his team captain for the Championship-opener at Crystal Palace on Saturday.

Goalkeeper Romain Larrieu was named club captain in the summer, but Luggy prefers his skipper on the pitch to be an outfield player.

Although he is yet to formally announce his decision, Luggy is expecting all the experienced players in his team to act as leaders on the field.

"I have got a discussion to be made with several players but I'm not a great believer in captains - I've said that in the past," he said.

"Experienced players should be my captains on the football pitch. I class Karl Duguid, I class Carl Fletcher and I class Romain as those types of people that should be leading the club.

"Somebody will toss the coin. I have made my mind up but I'll leave it until I've had discussions with the players. It would be remiss of me to say something before talking to the players.

"I want leaders on the football pitch, not just one leader. Marcel Seip can lead, Steve MacLean can lead and Chris Barker is very good at it as well. I want to hear the whole team talking.

"That was a key problem last year - we didn't have that kind of banter with each other, that kind of talking to each other, which I associate with a lot of my teams.

"I have heard it a lot more this season. I am encouraged by the games we have played so far and how people have respected each other and taken the criticisms given by other players."
