CARL Fletcher declared himself dissatisfied with the Greens' share of the opening-day spoils at his former club Crystal Palace, and thinks that is a measure of how much he and his team-mates have come over the close-season.

"I think, with the chances we had, it's disappointing to come away with just a point," said Fletcher, who captained the side at his former stamping-ground.

"That shows how far we have come - that we have got a point away from home and are disappointed.

"We seemed to create quite a bit and could have killed the game off in the first half. It wasn't to be, but we've got to learn from it and take it on.

"At the end of the day, a point away from home on the first day of the season is not the worst result in the world.

"The first day of the season is always tough, especially away from home. You know you are going to be under the cosh a little bit at times, and we knew we had to defend well.

"I thought, in general, we coped quite well with it. They didn't have too many clear-cut chances - a couple of long-range efforts, a couple of dangerous balls into the box but, apart from that, we seemed to be fairly solid."

Argyle's goal, by Krisztián Timár, came from a Luke Summerfield corner, and Carl said: "The manager's been on to us about our set-pieces.

"The Championship is so tight that set-plays can win or lose you a game. It's nice to get a little bit of reward for the effort you put in during training."

Fletcher was given the captain's armband, with last season's regular skipper Karl Duguid starting the game on the bench.

"It's nice that the manager thinks I can do a job," said Fletch, "but, if you are going to achieve anything, you need more than 11 captains - you now have a whole squad.

"If myself or anyone else in the team can help others with experience and things like that, then that's great but today was a fantastic team effort and everyone can be proud of their efforts, and their work-rate, and their attitude.

"It's a good start but we don't want to rest on our laurels. We've got to push on and hopefully look forward to a successful season."
