BATTLING QUALITIES

Posted on: Mon 10 Aug 2009

ARGYLE manager Paul Sturrock was delighted with the attitude of his players in Saturday's 1-1 draw at Crystal Palace.

In a terrific opening day encounter, we dominated for much of the first-half and went into the interval 1-0 ahead, courtesy of Krisztián Timár's early strike.

Luggy felt our standards dropped after the break and we reverted to long balls forward to Rory Fallon too often for his liking.

"The players showed their battling qualities," said Luggy. "Their attitude was different class and their spirit was excellent, and we are going to need that right through the season.

"The first-half was on a par with what we are looking for but we reverted to Rory too much as the game developed.

"We had a game-plan that we should have stuck to but we were getting joy out of Rory. If we are going to do that, our midfield has got to realise the situation.

"They [the midfield] were getting it off our back four and it was then going long to Rory, and he had no support.

"Overall, if somebody had told me we would get a draw from our first game, away from home at Crystal Palace, I would have been reasonably happy."
