KÁRI Árnason has been rewarded with his excellent form in his first five months at Argyle.
The Icelandic international was given a one-year deal in the summer and the natural midfielder has immediately impressed with his performances as a converted centre-back.
Arnie has now been given a two-year extension to his initial deal and he is pleased to settle down in the Plymouth area.
"The contract I got for one year was to prove myself," he said. "I knew my worth but I had to prove it to the club, and I think I've done a decent job, so it's nice to have stability.
"I like it here. It takes me a little while to adapt but I've adapted now, and I hope that I get the chance to play in the back four for the rest of the season.
"I know my situation within the team and I like working with [Head Coach Paul] Mariner and [Assistant John] Carver. They bring a positive energy to the team and they both have good experience.
"Talks have been going on for a while. It was slow at the beginning but I think both parties were happy in the end.
"I have read in the paper that there was some interest [from other clubs]. I don't know if that was made up or came from a third party."
Arnie is now turning his attention back to helping the Pilgrims retain their Championship status and he believes it is in an achievable aim. It is also an aim he hopes to reach as a defender.
"I would not have signed if I thought we were going down," he said.
"There is big potential in this team and I think we will definitely stay up. It is most important to stay in the league this season and, if we can go higher, that will be a positive thing.
"I look at myself as a defender now. I prefer that position but, if there were any trouble in midfield, I can always step up. I will do whatever the Gaffer tells me to do.
"I have been playing midfield since I was six-years-old, so it's still there, but it seems to suit me better to be a defender.
"It is tough and quick [in the Championship]. If you're not sharp, you will get done for it, but I like to fight the big guys."
