The Scottish striker, previously deemed surplus to requirements at Home Park, played in the Devon Bowl win at Buckland Athletic on Tuesday night.

Mariner was greatly impressed by reports on MacLean's attitude and approach to the game, and admitted the situation remains under review.

"I need to talk to Steve," he said. "He played on Tuesday night and, by all accounts, he played very well.

"He was instrumental in the victory, had a fantastic attitude and it's something that we need to consider.

"As I've said before, all the staff is under review and I continue to maintain that. If people are doing the right thing by the club, we've got to do the right thing by them.

"The reports that I'm getting are that things are favourable."
