COOPER COUP
ARGYLE have signed USA international forward Kenny Cooper on loan from 1860 Munich until the end of the season.
Cooper, who Mariner and assistant John Carver became familiar with during their time in America, began the season with German side 1860 Munich after three, free-scoring years with MLS club, FC Dallas.
Paul said: "He's a very, very powerful forward who gives us many options.
"He can play wide, he can play through the middle, and he's a highly motivated character who wants to try and get in the World Cup squad with the USA.
"He's a going to be a great addition to the club."
Having begun his career as a trainee at Manchester United, 25-year-old Cooper had loan spells with Portuguese side Académica Coimbra and Oldham Athletic before crossing the Atlantic to join FC Dallas.
In three seasons with the Red Stripes, Cooper scored 40 goals in 90 appearances and was consequently selected for the MLS All Star side.
Born in Baltimore, Maryland to English parents, Kenny holds a British passport but has won ten caps for the USA and scored four goals.
After admitting that Kenny was on his wish-list, Head Coach Paul Mariner was delighted to finally get his man,
He said: "We obviously know Kenny from our days in the MLS and we worked with him in the All Star team, when we played West Ham United.
"His set-pieces are quite fantastic and he can take penalties - he does it all.
"He's an extremely good player and we hope he'll be a successful player for us and, in turn, earn himself a place with his country at the World Cup.
"Kenny's got a lot of experience and his agent is extremely knowledgeable about the USA and Europe and he's got a great mentor in his father, Kenny Cooper Senior, who had a very good career.
"I'm delighted to have him and I look forward to working with him."
The transfer is subject to ratification by the Football League and FA.
