NEW signings Kenny Cooper and Damien Johnson are set to make their Argyle debuts in tomorrow's mouthwatering clash with West Bromwich Albion.

The high-flying Baggies will bring their expansive game to Home Park and Argyle Head Coach Paul Mariner believes his recent recruits represent a fresh approach for the Greens.

Mariner is also hoping to further strengthen his squad when the loan window reopens on Monday.

"Both will feature in the game on Saturday," he said. "They look ready to go. Kenny trained on Tuesday. Johnson had to attend to his stuff and trained yesterday.

"We want competition for places. We've moved players out on loan and the window opens up again on Monday, so we'll try to do something more - possibly some ins and some outs.

"The lads understand the nature of the beast. Football is all about healthy competition and that's what we've got.

"You only get one opportunity to make a first impression and the first impression of the new lads, and I include David Stockdale, has been very positive.

"People like to pigeon-hole players and you look at Kenny at six foot four, and you think he's a centre-back or a centre-forward hold-up man.

"He's actually neither of those. He can hold the ball up but he's very mobile, and we're expecting him to work the channels in a similar way to Jamie [Mackie].

"We've been tracking Kenny for a long time and it's the same with Damien, and I really take my hat off to the agent, Steve Scott.

"Without him this would have never gone through. I don't know why but he really wants to help us out. He chartered a plane to fly Damien down at his own expense.

"He thoroughly believes in the player and he wanted to get the deal done for us. Sometimes agents get the rough end of the stick but this gentleman has been absolutely fantastic.

"We're not Chelsea or Manchester United or Arsenal. We haven't got a huge squad, so we've got to look at players that are multi-functional.

"We've got to be very careful when we bring people in, so that they can fill certain roles and that is the case."
