THE versatility and toughness of Karl Duguid continues to amaze head coach Paul Mariner.

Duguid swiftly recovered from a sprained ankle in the loss to West Brom a fortnight ago to perform heroics as a right-back in last weekend's win at Barnsley.

Tuesday night against Swansea saw the former Colchester stalwart switching from defence to midfield and back again, and without skipping a beat.

"He is a remarkable individual," said Mariner. "We switched it around [against Swansea], put him in centre-midfield and he didn't miss a beat. When we got the equaliser, we switched it back to 4-4-2.

"He's a player that we value and he's just a fantastic professional - he's a tough kid as well."
