THE communication skills of Chris Barker could prove vital in Argyle's race for Championship survival.
Barker was recalled to the defence for the win at Barnsley last weekend and Tuesday's draw with Swansea, and he is expected to keep his place for the visit of Leicester City on Saturday.
Karl Duguid, Kári Árnason and Réda Johnson comprise the rest of the back four and head coach Paul Mariner is reliant on Barker to keep his defenders talking.
"We're in a situation where we have Arnie from Iceland, Réda from Benin, who is French-speaking, and we've got Duguid, who is a Londoner," he said.
"Communication is of paramount performance between the back four and the goalkeeper, and certainly Damien [Johnson] and [Carl] Fletcher in that central midfield role.
"He [Barker] has leadership qualities. He's a great talker and he helped Yala [Bolasie] enormously last week [at Barnsley]. It's a conglomeration of experience and talking. It just seems to help us.
"He'll get better with games because he's been out. Like anything, you need a run to get up to speed. As you progress, you get fitter and fitter.
"He can play two positions and that is obviously very useful in this league."
