ARGYLE head coach Paul Mariner has paid tribute to Michael Foot, who passed away on Wednesday morning at the age of 96.
As a former leader of the Labour Party, Michael Foot was a huge political figure in the last century and yet always retained his love for the Greens.
He served on the Argyle Board of Directors between 2001-05 and supported the club throughout his amazing life.
"Sue Vallins, my PA, asked me to sign something for Michael a few months ago," said Mariner.
"I was shocked he would want something from me and equally honoured. I am not a great one for politics but I know he was an absolute icon of the Labour Party.
"When he stood up to speak in the Commons, everybody sat up and listened because he was an absolute master of the language. I heard some very stirring stuff on the radio this morning when he was talking about the Falklands War and a peaceful solution.
"There was a story about when he was losing his sight that he would have a young man sit with him to commentate on the games - that is how passionate he was about the club.
"I've known that from even when I was playing. He was a very strong supporter of the club and it is very sad."
The Argyle players will be wearing black armbands when Preston North End visit Home Park on Saturday and the Green Army will be given the opportunity to pay tribute to one of their own with a minute's applause before kick-off.
