YALA Bolasie and Bradley Wright-Phillips made their keenly-anticipated and long-awaited full debuts for Argyle in Saturday's 1-1 draw at Coventry - and both lived up to expectations.
Winger Bolasie was man of the match after an eye-catching display, while BWP was a livewire partner for Jamie Mackie in the vanguard in his first start after a campaign ruined by a pre-season training-ground injury.
Head coach Paul Mariner said: "There's a time and a place to give young players debuts and I just felt today was the right time to give [Bolasie] his debut, because he deserved it.
"I thought he was absolutely fantastic, probably worth the entrance money. It is a credit to the lad - he's been out on loan, he's come back, he's listened to John [Carver] and me: we're not concerned when he's got the ball but we've been worried about the other side of the game.
"He had a lot of experience behind him today with [Karl] Duguid and with Eckers [Richard Eckersley], and I thought he was sparkling. That is the norm for him. We see him every day in training.
Bolasie nearly capped his first start with a late winner that would have meant so much to the Pilgrims.
"His left-foot volley coming over his shoulder hit Jamie Mackie on the socks. Whether it was going in or not, I don't know, but it certainly was goal-bound."
The performance of Mackie and BWP also delighted Paul.
I thought the front two were sparkling in the first half," he said. "I felt they did every single thing we wanted them to do.
" They were a thorn in the side of the defence, got in on a few occasions and - the other side of the game, which is so important - we defended from the front. They were in the forefront of that."
Bradley was substituted midway through the second half, with the head coach having one eye on the midweek Westcountry Derby against Bristol City at Home Park.
"I thought 70 minutes was probably his limit today," said Paul. "When he came off, Ii gave him a hug and said: 'Get ready for Tuesday.'
"I thanked him for what he did and said 'You've got to build on the first 45 [minutes].
"It's an incredible ask for a player whose been out for so long to go through for 90 minutes. I never thought he would do that, but I think everybody was pleased with what he did today."
