CURSES! TWO DOUBTFUL

Posted on: Tue 16 Mar 2010

THE Curse of the Back Four struck Argyle again during Saturday's 1-1 draw at Coventry City as they lost two defenders to injury.

Ever since pre-season, when Chris Barker limped out of action during the warm-up of the final pre-season friendly against Hearts, the Argyle defence has been plagued by problems.

David McNamee, Réda Johnson, James Chester, Kári Árnason, David Gray and Shane Lowry have all been forced to miss games through injury or suspension, and they could be joined on Tuesday - when Argyle host Bristol City - by full-backs Gary Sawyer and Richard Eckersley.

"Gary Sawyer has taken a hell of a clattering on the shin, so that's probably just bone bruise," said head coach Paul Mariner. "Richard Eckersley came off with a groin [injury]. I hope we caught it fast enough, but I'm guessing he's struggling for Tuesday."

Paul is now keen for potential replacements' Bondz N'Gala and Onismor Bhasera to complete their moves to Home Park.

Bondz is due to sign on loan from West Ham, while Zimbabwean international Bhasera needs a employment visa.

Speaking after the draw at the Ricoh Arena, Paul said: "[Bondz] was here today, in the stand. I think everything is cleared with West Ham. Hopefully, he will be training tomorrow; if not, Monday.

"We're hopeful Baz may come in. He's going to Cardiff - I think it's Cardiff - on Monday for his visa."
