A SIMPLE GAME

ANTON Peterlin is hoping to impress the Green Army with his simple approach to the game.

The American midfielder has become new manager Peter Reid's first signing after a strong showing in the pre-season campaign.

Peterlin spent last season with Everton but was free to join the Greens after his release from Goodison in the summer.

"I don't know how much the management staff has seen of me before but pre-season has helped me get to where I am now," he said.

"I went on trial at Everton last year and you get used to it. I went with the mentality of trying to play my football. I like to play simple and work hard. There is pressure but you try not to think about it too much.

"You can do as much as you want in training but it comes down to games, so I'm glad he's [Reid] given me the minutes to play. I have to just keep impressing."

Although a central midfielder, Peterlin has also played on the right flank and at full-back in the last fortnight.

He has been delighted with the welcoming nature of his new team-mates and feels an adherence to Peter Reid's strategy could reap rewards.

"Right-back was short-lived but I came in at right-midfield, and it is different versatilities," he said. "My favourite position is centre midfield and I like to get from box-to-box. I am striving to now get better at that final pass.

"They [the players] have been really nice and accepting. They were awesome in Holland and we were really close-knit.

"It's going to be hard but, if we work hard and stick to the game-plan, we will have a chance of getting promoted."

Reid said that the acquisition of Peterlin will add energy to his midfield options alongside the experience of Damien Johnson and Carl Fletcher, and craft of Luke Summerfield.

"He has done well in the games he's played," said Reid. "He has plenty of energy.

"We've got experience in Johnson, Fletcher and Summerfield, but he's a bit younger and with legs. When it goes through, we'll be delighted to have him on board."
