BARKS TO ROOTS

Posted on: Sun 01 Aug 2010

ARGYLE defender Chris Barker is linking up again with the manager who brought him to Home Park.

Barks is joining Paul Sturrock's Southend United on a temporary basis.

He was given permission by Argyle to play in the League 2 Shrimpers' pre-season match against Eastbourne Borough on Saturday.

Chris, 30, was signed by Luggy for the Pilgrims on the eve of the 2008-09 season and made 42 appearances in that campaign.

A severe calf injury in pre-season 12 months ago kept him out until the festive period of last season and he drifted in and out of the team in the closing months of the campaign.

He was recently told by new manager Peter Reid that his future lies away from Home Park.
