DEFENDER Kári Árnason began his career with Vikingur in his native Iceland.
He spent five years with his first club before making the move east to join Swedish outfit, Djurgarden, where he would spend the next two years.
In 2006, Arnie continued his Scandinavian odyssey by signing for AGF Aarhus in the top flight of Danish football, and it was during this time that he won his first international cap for Iceland.
As his career with Aarhus drew to a close, Arnie had a brief spell on loan at Esbjerg, also in the Danish league, before travelling to England in search of a new club.
He was invited to play in a specially-arranged trial match at Home Park in the summer of 2009 and impressed Argyle boss Paul Sturrock with his composed performance in midfield. Arnie joined the Greens on the pre-season tour of Scotland and was soon given a one-year deal with the club.
Although signed as a midfielder, a defensive injury crisis at the start of last season forced Luggy to throw in Arnie for his debut at Derby County, and the imperious Arnie immediately shone in the hustle and bustle of the Championship.
He would soon establish himself as a regular centre-back under both Luggy and Paul Mariner, and his incredible conversion to a defensive role led to him agreeing a two-year extension to his Argyle contract in January 2010. Up to the summer of 2010, Arnie had 17 caps for Iceland and one goal.
