ARGYLE'S second string went down 2-0 to a vastly more experienced Yeovil Town side in a behind-closed-doors friendly at Home Park on Tuesday afternoon.

Two early goals from first-teamers Gavin Massey and Oli Johnson gave the Glovers the victory against a Pilgrims side made up of young professionals and apprentices.

Argyle also featured a trialist as well as former goalkeeper Ollie Chenoweth, given permission to make up the numbers by his current side Bideford.

Yeovil meanwhile sported a range of first team players including former Pilgrim Bondz N'Gala. Steve MacLean watched from the stands.

It didn't take long for Yeovil to show their superiority, with Massey making a run from nearly half-way to slot past Chenoweth at his near post.

The young Pilgrims didn't have time to draw their breath before Yeovil had stuck. This time, on-loan Norwich City striker Johnson was the scorer, angling a lovely little shot from the edge of the box into the top right-hand corner.

Despite still being in the early stages of the game, Yeovil were happy to sit on their lead and keep possession.

The Pilgrims did have a couple of chances to reduced the deficit, though. Firstly, Matt Lecointe went just over from a Jordan Copp corner before Copp himself had a pop, shooting just wide after a clever one-two with Luke Young.

Although both sides huffed and puffed in the second period, neither could find that find the killer pass to add to the scoreline.

The only incident of note was a nasty looking injury to centre-half James Bradley, with the first-year apprentice coming off worse from a 50/50 tackle in the middle of the park.

He limped off, to be replaced with schoolboy Ben Purrington before Tom Hitchcock had a final chance to get Argyle on scoresheet, but saw his diving header saved on the line by the Yeovil 'keeper.

Argyle (4-4-2): 23 Ollie Chenoweth; 2 Andrew Elcock; 5 James Bradley (Ben Purrington 77), 6 Jordan Pearce, 3 Jamie Richards; 11 Jamie Griffiths (Isaac Vassell 67), 4 Luke Young, 7 Matt Lecointe, 8 Jordan Copp; 9 A Trialist, 10 Tom Hitchcock.
