EXTRA TIME

Posted on: Mon 13 Jul 2009

ARGYLE'S Football in the Community Scheme has recently secured funding for a new initiative called Extra Time, which is aimed at supporting independence and well-being for older people.

This is a unique partnership between the Football Foundation and Comic Relief, supported by Age Concern and Help the Aged, aimed at football club community schemes who wish to offer a programme of physical and social activity for individuals over 60.

The specific aims of this programme will be for club community schemes to engage older people in a physical and social programme once a week for at least 30 weeks of the year.

Mark Rivers said "We are delighted to have successfully gained the funding for this project. We already deliver a comprehensive programme for the under 11 age bracket, so it is fantastic to now be able to offer something for the over 60's.

"We have obtained £10,000 for 12 months to deliver a series of activities including Tai Chi, Indoor bowls, tea dancing and keep fit."
