ARGYLE'S
Football in the Community Trust are delivering a new and exciting summer soccer school with a difference.
The Trust, who already boasts a successful disability scheme, are delivering 10 days of fun and games to local young people who are autistic or are awaiting a diagnosis of autism.
This is the first time the Trust, working in partnership with Plymouth City Council, have delivered such an activity, however very much hopes it's the start of something new.
Each day sees the youngsters taking part in fun-filled sport sessions, aimed at improving their basic skills whilst making new friends.
The courses are full of mini-games and technique workshops and see each participant work with professional Argyle coaches, giving them a unique experience of what it is like to be a professional 'Pilgrim'.
To compliment practical sport sessions, each participant takes part in exciting workshops aimed at improving young peoples understanding of both the game, as well as the importance of leading a healthy, active lifestyle. Skills that will be introduced include smoothie making classes, kit design and basic first aid tips.
The Trust has signed up over 20 kids between the ages of 7-11, as part of Plymouth City Councils 'Short Breaks' opportunity.
Social Inclusion Officer Dwain Morgan said: "This is a very exciting project and will be hugely enjoyable for both the kids and the coaches, it's been great to have the opportunity to enable young people to have the opportunity to experience a professional football club.
"To work with so many local young people that may not have attended our soccer schools previously will be fantastic and rewarding."
