OUR HERITAGE
FOUNDED as Argyle Football Club, the club turned professional in 1903, when the club adopted its current name of Plymouth Argyle FC.
The name 'Argyle' is derived from the Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders who were stationed in Plymouth and whose teamwork in winning the Army Cup had greatly impressed.
The original ground was destroyed by German bombers during the Blitz in World War II. It was rebuilt after the war and then largely demolished as part of an extensive renovation completed in 2002.

Club crest features the Mayflower - the ship which carried the Pilgrim Fathers to Massachusetts, America in 1620.
In 1984, Argyle reached the FA Cup Semi Final - despite being a Division 3 club, losing to Watford.
FA Cup Quarter-Finalists 2007 - again narrowly losing to Watford.
