THE fledgling career of Argyle's schoolboy striker, Liam Head, has received another boost with the news that he has been placed on standby for the England Under-17 international squad for the prestigious Nordic tournament that takes place in Sweden between July 23 and August 3.

The eight-nation competition also involves Scotland, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Iceland, the Faroe Islands and host nation, Sweden, and is being used by England youth manager Kenny Swain as preparations for EUFA's European U17 Championships later in the season.

Sixteen-year-old Liam, from Bovey Tracey, is due to sign apprentice professional forms for the Pilgrims at the end of this month, last season made 5 starts and 2 substitute appearances for the England under-16 team during their 9-match programme as Swain rotated the 40 players in his development squad to assess their suitability for international football.

So Liam, who impressed in his Argyle Reserve team debut as a second half substitute in their final home game of last season against Cheltenham Town, should be pleased that he is still very much in Swain's thoughts now the size of the squad has been significantly reduced.
