THIS victory at the Bournemouth Sports Club ground ensured that our youngsters have opened their Football League Youth Alliance programme with two wins on the bounce..

With a strong wind at their backs, the Young Pilgrims quickly took command, and the game was only five minutes old when second-year apprentice striker, Matt Rickard, found the net, only to have his effort disallowed because of an offside flag.

Rickard then broke through the middle but shot wide before the Greens' took the lead in the 20th minute, when a free-kick from the right by midfielder Jordan Copp was headed into his own goal by Cherries' midfielder Elliot Ward.

Our youngsters allowed the Cherries to come more into the game either side of the interval - and our schoolboy 'keeper Jack Ord made an important diving save early in the second half to prevent an equalizer.

The persistent Rickard was rewarded for his endeavours with a goal on 70 minutes, when he held off two challenges inside the penalty area before side-footing home our second goal.

Moments later, at the other end of the pitch, left-back Connor Clifford was in the right place at the right time to make a vital goal-line clearance from a header by Cherries' striker Jordan Chedozig with Ord beaten.

Two late goals gave the final score-line a more emphatic look - and midfielders Luke Young and Jed Harper-Penman played key roles in them both.

In the 87th minute a measured pass from the cultured Young put Harper-Penman clean through the middle, and the chirpy right-winger skillfully lobbed the home 'keeper from 15 yards..

Then, three minutes into injury time, another thoughtful pass by Young sent Harper-Penman free down the right, and he duly deliver an inch-perfect cross for substitute strike Lewis Coombes to side-foot into the net at the far post.

Argyle (4-4-2): 1 Jack Ord; 2 Dan Hart (16 James Bradley, 85), 3 Jack Stephens, 4 Jordan Pearce, 5 Connor Clifford; 7 Jed Harper-Penman, 6 Luke Young, 8 Jordan Berry, 11 Jake Baker; 9 Matt Rickard, 10 Jordan Copp (12 Jared Sims, 62). Subs. (not used): 17 Matt LeCointe, 23 Raivo Varazinskis.

Our youngsters are again in action this Tuesday afternoon, when they begin their Youth Alliance Cup campaign with a first round group game against Swansea City at the Royal Artillery 29 Commando ground at Millbay Park, kick-off 2pm.

Torquay United, Exeter City, Yeovil Town and Bristol Rovers are the other teams in the Group and after each team has played the others once each, the top four teams go through to round two.
