It was not until almost a year later that Ryan got his first run in the starting eleven, and went on to score 10 goals for the Pilgrims, starting 19 games and making 20 appearances from the bench. This run came to an abrupt end, however, as Ryan suffered a knee injury in an away fixture against Barnet that put an end to his season. He made four starts for Argyle in his first season, and 11 appearances off the bench, scoring three times in wins against Hartlepool and Cambridge United, and the play-off semi-final defeat at Wycombe.
The 6ft 1in striker played for York City and Stevenage earlier in the 2014-15 season, but ankle and knee injuries limited his first-team opportunities over the last two campaigns. The Stoke City Academy graduate impressed Rovers enough in his 37 combined games on loan at Tranmere Rovers and Leyton Orient for them to sign the teenager in 2013. Ryan scored on his debut for the club against Barnet and played a key role in the club avoiding relegation from the Football League that season.
