...the depth of Argyle’s defensive pool resembled a child’s paddling pool during a hosepipe ban.

Step forward Scott Griffiths.

Scott, a left-back who plies his regular trade for Peterborough, was plunged straight into the deep end, starting a game for his new side approximately nine hours after signing for them, from 200 miles away.

It was a winning start for him, as he played his part in a 2-1 Argyle victory over fellow npower League 2 side Aldershot.

“Scott has driven down from Peterborough today and literally got here about twenty minutes before we were due to have our meeting at half five,” said boss Carl Fletcher.

“We knew what we were getting in. He hasn’t played loads of games, but he came in and did well.

“He’s been in the car pretty much all of the day. He’s enthusiastic to get down here and play. He’s come in and done well. I’m really pleased that we’ve got him down here.

“We tried for two days, we had a few fall through. One at 9pm last night.

“I think we tried to get Scott yesterday but we couldn’t get hold of their club. We got it done this morning at about half nine I think.”
