ARGYLE club president Chris Webb introduces the candidates for the Plymouth Argyle Supporters' Board elections.

Dear Supporters,

Please find below the candidate statements for all nine Argyle supporters that are standing in the PASB elections. Copies of these statements will also be included in the ballot papers that will be dispatched on September 28th.

As previously communicated a venue is being sought for the hustings which will be held on September 29. As soon as we have the full details they will be released on www.pafc.co.uk.

We are also hoping to obtain coverage for the elections in the local press in the lead up to the papers being dispatched.

Regards,

Chris

CANDIDATES 100 WORD STATEMENTS

ALAN BARRY

Alan Barry, aged 67, supporter for a number of years. I am a Season Ticket holder and standing for the Plymouth Argyle Supporters Board as an individual.
I have been in business in Liskeard for 13 years before moving back to Plymouth in 2000, and now live 5 minutes away from Home Park.
I audit the Accounts of 2 voluntary organisations locally
I feel I have the experience and lifelong ‘wherewithall’ to be an effective member of the PASB and to ensure that the club never returns to the situation it arrived at nearly 2 years ago

MILES BIDGOOD

I will be looking to influence decisions which benefit the fanbase, whilst upholding the objectives and aspirations of the Trust. I will work hard pursuing fan and community involvement. I fully support fan based initiatives such as The Green Taverner's and realise we have to offer more.
I am an experienced Trade Union representative, and able to communicate at all levels.   An Argyle fan since early 70's I understand the supporter culture and love Plymouth Argyle.
I'm a home grown St Budeaux lad that wants to help, I will try to set the agenda in the  Green Army's best interests.

JON BACK

I am life-long fan, dad of a young green (who sits with me every game), ST holder, Fan’s Trust member and still occasionally shed a tear of joy when we score…
I am also a Police Inspector of 23 years’ service where I perform a national role on behalf of the Home Office, scrutinising the way in which police forces meet national standards; recommending appropriate actions/sanctions as appropriate (similar to the PASB remit).
As a Board member, I will bring a set of skills and attributes perfect for the role and will act in a fair, transparent yet robust manner……

TONY HOOPER

Hi, I’m a lifelong Argyle fan living in Somerset. I’m a green member and regular away fan
I’m also an Independent; I am not backed by any organised group.
I believe I have much to offer the PASB:  Besides loving Argyle I have been a fraud investigator for the past 32 years in both the public and private sectors. I am an Independent councillor.
I am proud my nominators come from across the Argyle family. From a playing legend to Forza Verde members; men and women of all ages. From Trust Board member to those in the Green Taverners family.

PHIL JOHNS
A member of the Argyle Fans’ Trust, I am a committed supporter of its objectives, particularly the ethos of maximising supporter involvement in all the affairs of their club.
The Supporters’ Board is a small step up the mountain to collective ownership and control, but FC-Barcelona offer proof of the possible.
My priorities are:
●  Accountable supporter representation on the Club Board,
●  Functioning sustainably (financially/environmentally/neighbourliness),
●  Development of appropriate partnerships, increasing the use of our stadium and other facilities,
●  Ensuring the best possible matchday experience (stewarding, catering, the conduct of supporters, etc.),
    ●  Creating state-of-the-art players’ facilities.

JOHN PETRIE

I was one of those who established the Fans’ Trust and have been working and fighting for the supporters of Argyle ever since, as a board member of the Trust and also having helped to establish the PASB.
Having been involved in the fight to save our club, I am even firmer in my belief that our club needs to have its supporters at its heart. By electing me, you will get someone who has worked hard to get us a role in the governance of the club, who is committed to use that experience to help our club grow.

GARY POLLOCK

I have been a loyal and passionate Argyle supporter for 40 years and have often spoken out on the running of the football club I hold so dear to my heart. In recent times that loyalty has been tested to the limit but I believe it is absolutely essential to the prosperity of our great city that we have a successful football team that the whole community can be proud of.

I applaud Mr. Brent’s motives wholeheartedly and would therefore like to put my name forward and help Plymouth Argyle FC back to where it rightly belongs...

EDMUND SHILLABEER

"I started going to Argyle 1947.
I joined AFT early, was co-opted onto the Interim Steering committee and on the Trust Board ever since, now an officially elected member.
I support the overall aims of the AFT especially regards Governance and Club accountability to the fans as represented by PASB.
We have a good if unproven Club Board and Management team but fans must have a strong position to prevent our recent troubles recurring.
Personal crusades include Safe Standing, better Club financial support for our Ladies' and Disabled teams, more frequent non-football use of Club facilities, expansion of parking facilities.

JOHN SPARKES

The proposed PASB gives us a unique opportunity to have oversight of the club we all love.  I believe I would be an asset to PASB because: -
•    I bring valuable financial and commercial expertise as a chartered accountant;
•    I have experience of running a sports organisation including fostering community engagement from my long-standing involvement with Devon cricket;
•    I am a member of our Fans Trust and believe strongly in its core objectives of supporter and community influence in running the club.  I have been advising the Fans Trust Board on the potential club share ownership offer.
