Oxford Youth 4 Argyle Youth 2

TWO ten minute spells were the undoing of Argyle against league leaders Oxford United at the Oxford Sports Club.

Oxford needed this victory as they meet second place Bristol Rovers this Tuesday in a game that will settle the championship of the Football League Youth Alliance Southern Section.

Argyle were caught cold in the opening 10 minutes as Oxford scored twice with the first coming on five minutes when a free kick was headed back across goal for Tdriel George to fire home from close range.

The home side then broke down the left flank and when the ball came into the Argyle area, the Pilgrims failed to clear it, leaving Josh Ashby to drive the ball back into the net.

Argyle hit back, a minute later, when Solomon Wheatley's good run down the right led to Ryan Lane, pictured, firing home his cross from six yards.

Argyle more than held their own for the next 56 minutes until Colin Watson was penalised for a foul in the area for James Roberts to convert the penalty.

Three minutes later, it was 4-1 when a right wing cross found Mucktaru Conte free in the area to head low past Tom McHale.

Once again Argyle were quick to respond as Matt Lecointe supplied a good, close range, finish from a Wheatley right wing cross but sadly, it was not to be enough
