Keeping Sharp

THE competition for the Argyle goalkeeping position goes on after Luke McCormick was handed the gloves for Saturday’s 3-1 victory at Cheltenham.

Jake Cole had played in the Pilgrims’ previous two matches and was injured in training this week. However, manager John Sheridan admitted, after the win, that Luke’s name had already been pencilled in for the custodian’s role.

“Jake knows I was going to play Luke anyway, before he got injured,” said John, who revealed that Jake had twisted an ankle blocking a shot from team-mate Marvin Morgan.

“They are both evenly matched. Even if I keep changing them around, which I don’t want to do, it doesn’t worry me because I know they are both good ’keepers.

“They train 100% every day and are both fighting for the No. 1 spot, so whoever gets in there wants to stay in there.

“I just thought Luke could play a big part in the game today, the way we were going to go about the game.”
