John's Praise For Jason

JASON Banton was not only playing for Argyle for the first time on Saturday against Dagenham & Redbridge, he was starting his first senior football match.

The 20-year-old, signed on loan from Crystal Palace on Thursday, was replaced by Andres Gurrieri in the dying stages of the game, but did enough whilst on the pitch to catch the eye of his new boss.

“I though Jason played really well for his first game,” said John Sheridan.

“He was a bright spark and took care of the ball. He hasn’t played much first-team football and got a bit of cramp at the end, but I was very pleased with debut.

“He’ll excite you. You could see what he was trying to do; it just didn’t come off. But he did some really good things.

“I like the way he gets [the ball]. He’s positive and takes care of it. He looks comfortable with the ball. He caresses it.

“I’m really pleased. He put in a good performance. It’s just a shame we didn’t quite get that win.”
