Plymstock 0 Argyle Ladies 7

ARGYLE'S Ladies cruised into the Devon County Cup semi-finals with a 7-0 thrashing of Plymstock.

A bright but chilly afternoon greeted the players as they took the pitch for one of only six women's games to be played throughout the country.

Kev Rose gave a starts to youngsters Sarah Stacey following her goal that clinched the FA Cup win at Larkhall a fortnight ago, and Alex Hugh at right back.

Argyle were off to a flying start when Emily Mousley guided the ball home after only three minutes.

The home side defended stubbornly and, aided by some weak finishing, made Argyle wait until the half hour mark to increase their lead.

This time, Mousley turned provider as she put strike partner Steph Beck through to finish with a neat shot.

It was not one way traffic and Plymstock had their share of possession, but lacked a cutting edge in the final third.

Any anxiety in the Argyle camp was dispelled with two goals in a minute just before the break.

Again it was Beck and Mousley on target to give the Pilgrims a comfortable 4-0 half-time lead.

In the second half, Argyle were constantly on the attack and Stacey who had been prominent  throughout found the net in the 53rd min with a deft header at the near post after good work on the left by Mousley.

With the home team beginning to tire, Mousley completed her hat trick after a fine cross from Chloe Bassett and notched her  fourth in a three minute spell around the hour mark to complete the scoring and book a semi-final spot in March.

Managers choice for POM this week goes to Sarah Stacey.

She was a constant threat down the right side and later in the game up front with her strong direct running.
