Michael Foot Celebration

PLYMOUTH celebrates the hundredth anniversary of the birth of former Argyle director Michael Foot this Tuesday.

Council leader Tudor Evans is hosting the centenary celebrations in the Council Chambers, starting at 6.30pm.

The evening is part of a campaign to raise £60,000 to create a Foot memorial in Freedom Fields Park in Plymouth.

A number of special Michael Foot memorabilia items will be raffled on the night to help raise funds.

Michael, who died in 2010, sat on the Board at Home Park in the early part of the century and, having supported the club his entire life, was officially registered as a player in 2003 in celebration of his 90th birthday.

He was MP for Devonport from 1945 to 1955 and later MP for Ebbw Vale from 1960 until 1992 and also leader of the Labour Party from 1980 to 1983.

The celebrations are open to all and admission is free.
