Stand By Me

IT was difficult to say who was more relieved when Reuben Reid sealed Argyle’s 2-0 victory at Southend last time out with his first goal for the club...

...Reuben himself or Pilgrims’ manager John Sheridan.

The cool finish, 10 games after the former Home Park first-year professional returned to Argyle on loan from Yeovil, vindicated the gaffer’s decision to keep faith with the 24-year-old and believes it will spur him on to greater things

“I’ve stuck by him,” said John, who, this week, extended Reuben’s loan spell until the end of the campaign.

“Obviously, I would have liked him to have scored a lot more goals – he’s been getting one or two people talking about him because he’s not been scoring – but he’s working hard and he’s improving.

“He’s getting to know what I want from him, and I thought his display at Southend was very good. Not just because he scored – I was pleased with the way he played, and even more pleased that he’s got off the mark, now.

“Hopefully, that will do him the world of good and he’ll want to carry on scoring goals for us.”
