ARGYLE’S Football in the Community Trust are pleased to announce a unique Higher Education studies programme based at Home Park.

In partnership with the Football League Trust, Marjon and several other football clubs, the Trust are launching a foundation degree.

Students can study for a FdA in Football Coaching & Development foundation degree with principle aims to:

•    Provide vocational experiences with mentoring support to ensure students can deliver high quality, age specific community football coaching sessions.
•    Underpin an theory based studies alongside practical and work based environments to develop a higher level of coaches and expertise in sports development.
•    To develop a highly skilled workforce to initiate programmes within the local community.
•    Support wider role of football within football league clubs and communities.

The course will be based at Marjons' Derriford-based campus as well as at the football club and taught via a number of sources ranging from , tutor led sessions, coaching sessions, online learning and also coach development days.

In addition to the course studies, there is also training and games programme where students will get the opportunity to participate in regular coaching sessions and a Futal games programme against other professional football clubs. Opportunities also exist for students to link in with existing university fixtures.

Every participant on the course also undertakes their FA Level Coaching qualifications Level 2 and Level 3 (UEFA B) during their time and as part of the programme.

Community Manager Mark Lovell explains: “The course is very unique and will help improve employability and help students gain vocational experience within the sports development spectrum and gain nationally recognised qualifications relevant to the sports industry.

“Students study in a flexible environment, and gain a foundation degree at a university recognised as one of the leaders in sports coaching and performance.

“For those interested in furthering their careers, there is no better way than to be educated through a nationally recognised university and to be placed at a professional football club where you can gain a real insight and experience into football development.

“It also allows people the opportunity to improve their football performance by engaging in weekly sessions and competition with professional club coaches.”

The course cost is £7,995 per year and all students are eligible for Student Loans and further grants.
