Horses For Courses

‘HORSES for courses’ has long been the mantra of the football manager and John Sheridan is no different.

The Pilgrims’ latest 3-5-2 formation, as blooded against Swindon and Portsmouth, has proved so far so good and John has been pleased with its affect.

John said: “I look at the personnel that I’ve got and I think it suits the likes of [Luke] Young and going three at the back suited us a little bit better.

“It enabled Youngy and Conor [Hourihane] to get on the ball more with overload in midfield and I think that Rommy [Boco] is better in those central areas.

“It’s difficult for the wing-backs when you play that system – for Jamie and Durrell – they’ve got to get forward, then they’ve got to get back and defend.

“But it thought we played well and retained the ball a lot more.”

“We started the game [against Portsmouth] really well.

“Full credit to the players – it was bit of a new system but I thought we looked quite comfortable and it’s a shame that we didn’t get the three points that we were after.”
