Academy Remembers

THIS month, football has been commemorating the centenary of one of the most iconic moments of the first world war...

...the 1914 Christmas Truce football matches which occurred spontaneously up and down the Western Front on Christmas Day 1914.

Approaching the Academy festive break, our youth department felt it would be appropriate to take part in the “moment in history” event and show their respect and thanks to all the footballers that made the ultimate sacrifice during the Great War.

Our players took part in a football match at our final training session at Ivybridge Community College on Thursday. We thought it would be appropriate that the players train and play in their black or grey trousers, white shirts and Argyle jumpers to commemorate the act when these young men laid down their arms and played football with the enemy for this short period of time.
