On Target

TOP scorer Reuben Reid has not set himself a goal target this season, instead declaring his wish to focus on hit fitness, and contribution to the team.

Reuben currently sits second in the Sky Bet League 2 scoring charts having netted nine times, just one behind Oxford United’s Danny Hylton. However, this is not his primary focus.

“Obviously it’s a nice thing," said Reuben, "but I don’t really look at the papers for those things specifically.

“I just want to stay fit and complete as many games as possible.

“The goals are a bonus when you’re playing in a team that’s winning. Hopefully I can contribute to the team performances, and if I score it’s just an added bonus.”

With Reid grabbing most of the goals for the Pilgrims, the Argyle striker was quick to praise his strike partner Lewis Alessandra.

Alessandra currently has six goals in all competitions, and Reuben believes the two are linking up very well together.

“Sometimes I’ve been paired up with a target man," said Reuben, "and I don’t think that works well for me at all when someone is standing in my areas that I stand in.

“Lewi stands on the line, and drags players out of position as he’s always on the move. I’ll be able to get hold of the ball and set people up.

“Every team needs goals, at the moment it just happens to be me and Lewi.

“But who’s to say that another lad isn’t out there as well; obviously you've got (Deane) Smalley and Marv (Morgan) and other people who can come in and do a job.

“We’re a squad of players, we all want to play.

“They all have the potential and ability to play. But at the moments, it’s me and Lewi have been given the shirt so hopefully we can keep it.”
